Proper teeth brushing
It’s not just about brushing your for more than two times a day but on how you do it. Wearing braces makes it difficult brushing the teeth due to wires attached to them. The good news is that there are brace-specific toothbrushes that people with braces can use. We sometimes recommend our patients to use electric toothbrush for better cleaning. There are electric toothbrushes that are specific for those who are wearing braces. Our professional dentists will show our patients on how to properly brush their teeth to prevent or get rid of white spots after braces.
Mouthwash and floss
Another home remedy for white spots is using mouthwash with fluoride or using toothpaste with extra fluoride. Fluoride protects the minerals found on the outer layer of the teeth that easily gets stripped off when wearing braces. When this mineral is stripped off, the teeth become susceptible to cavities and damage. To clean your teeth thoroughly, use dental floss every after brushing your teeth to remove remaining food particles in between your teeth.
Avoid sweet and acidic diet
White spots and stains are also caused with the consumption of acidic, vinegar-based and sweet food and beverages. If you consume acidic food and drinks, make it a point to brush your teeth immediately after or before going to bed.
Coconut oil
To get rid of white spots after braces, take two tablespoons of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for ten minutes. Coconut oil is rich in antibacterial and antifungal properties and they can help prevent white spots development on your teeth. Spit the coconut oil after ten minutes and rinse with warm water.
